Current Training - Lewes 5 - Feldenkrais ITC

Current Training - Lewes 5

The Lewes 5 Feldenkrais Professional Training programme began in August 2008 and will enter its third year in August 2010.

As is the standard for all accredited Feldenkrais trainings, the course takes place over 4 years for 40 training days per year. The training year is divided into 3 segments of approximately 2 - 3 weeks each, meeting in the Summer, Autumn and Spring (based around the UK school holidays).

Lewes 5 takes place in the small historic village of Lewes, East Sussex with easy access to the many walking paths of the South Downs, to the seaside city of Brighton and Hove, and the picturesque coast and villages of the south of England. It is a short train journey to the cultural attractions of London, and is close to Gatwick airport.

The Feldenkrais International Training Centre has been under the direction of Garet Newell since 1987. As one of the first training centres to be established in Europe, it has attracted teaching staff and students from many countries and cultures for the past twenty years. Six successful training programmes have already been completed - our seventh training, Sussex VII, began in July 2010.

TRAINING SIZE
The Lewes 5 training is limited to 30 students, a small training group thus ensuring greater personal contact amongst the trainees as well as with the training staff.

The training is non-residential. East Sussex is a popular tourist area, and is well provided with accommodation. Students arrange their accommodation in local bed and breakfasts and nearby hotels.

TUITION
Tuition fees are £2,500 per training year, and are payable in three instalments per training year. We are registered with the Learning and Skills Council, and applicants are eligible to apply for a Career Development Loan.

TRAINING STAFF
The training staff brings together some of the most respected and experienced Trainers and Assistant Trainers in the Feldenkrais Method. Some had worked with Moshe Feldenkrais for more than 30 years and all of them bring their extensive experience of directing and teaching in professional training programmes since his death in 1984. The present training staff includes Myriam Pfeffer, Carl Ginsburg, Roger Russell, Edward Dwelle, Mara della Pergola and Garet Newell.

EDUCATIONAL DIRECTION
The Educational Director is Garet Newell. With a University Degree in Art History and an MA degree in Dance, she discovered the Feldenkrais Method through her many experiences in various approaches to both movement and awareness. She was a student in Feldenkrais' final training in the US and Israel, from which she graduated in 1983.

Teaching in London since 1984, she has been instrumental in introducing the Method to a wide audience and through her many years of teaching at the International Workshop Festival, to the performing artist. She co-directed the first Feldenkrais training in the UK, which began in London in 1987 and has directed four successful trainings in Lewes since. In 1996 she became one of the first Europe based Trainers. She brings her extensive experience in Feldenkrais trainings and her innovative thinking to create and oversee the conceptual framework over the four years of the course.

VIDEO
We are fortunate to have access to hundreds of hours of videotapes of Moshe Feldenkrais' teaching Awareness through Movement and Functional Integration as well as lecturing on a wide range of topics. They will be integrated into the training and introduce the students to Feldenkrais' unique approach to education.
